Lookout towers and viewpoints in Liptov region
Liptov is the region in the north of Slovakia, known for its beautiful nature, mountains and hiking trails. One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Liptov region are lookout towers, which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside – the majestic Tatras, the Small and Great Fatra, but also Liptovská Mara dam.
Each of the Liptov region lookout towers has its own unique character and provides the different perspective on the beautiful Liptov region landscape.
Liptovská Lúžna Lookout Tower
The tower is located just a few minutes of easy walking from the village of Liptovská Lúžna in the direction of Železnô mountain settlement. The road to it leads through the meadow and still offers views of Lúžanské Meanders with the clean, slowly flowing water of the Lúžňanka stream. Meandering – the zigzagging of the water was caused by a noticeable stream gradient mitigation. The river thus creates the impression that it flows up the hill.
Viewpoint Skalka, Liptovský Hrádok town
The viewpoint is located near the Grand Castle in Liptovský Hrádok . An easy route with an ascent will take us to its top. From there, there is a view of the entire town, the Belá River, but also the surroundings of Liptovský Hrádok town and the hills. At the top of the cliff there is a double cross and under Skalka there is a monument with a memorial plaque dedicated to the victims of the 1st and 2nd World Wars as well as to the inhabitants of the villages in Belánská dolina valley. The monument was built by the academic sculptor Ladislav Ľudovít Pollák.
Ostredok Lookout Tower, Jasná
Ostredok lookout tower is located just a few – minute walk from the parking lot in the Biela púť area in the ski resort Jasná – Nízke Tatry. The starting point and signpost are also visible from the parking lot. Below the lookout tower there is a picnic table and benches, and from the lookout tower itself there is a nice view of mount Chopok and the Low Tatras. The hiking trail continues to the Symbolic Cemetery for the Victims of the Low Tatras. In the chapel at the symbolic cemetery, there are plaques with the names of people who died in the Low Tatras. There is also a sculpture of the “Mountain Pietà”, which symbolizes the mother’s grief over her child loss.
Malý Roháč viewpoint, Kvačianska dolina valley
The viewpoint is located about a one-hour easy walk from the mouth of Kvačianska dolina valley. Malý Roháč viewpoint is basically a secured platform located among the trees, directly on a rocky cliff with an authentic view of the valley upper part and a large rock needle
Pavčina Lehota Observation Tower
Pavčina Lehota village is located at the beginning of the Demänovská dolina Valley, it is necessary to turn right from the main road. The observation tower offers a unique view of the entire Liptov region. The tower is located just a few minutes of easy walking from the parking lot in the mountain resort called Žiarce. The road to it leads through the meadow and still offers views of the wide surroundings. In the resort named Žiarce there is also a mountain bobsleigh track, which is undoubtedly an attractive enrichment for adrenaline lovers and children in the summer.
Sidorovo viewpoint
Sidorovo (1099 m above sea level) is a peak located above Vlkolínec mountain settlement so you can go to the viewpoint from Vlkolínec, but also from Ružomberok town, from the local calvary or use the cable car from Hrabovo. The viewpoint offers great views of the Low and Western Tatras and the Liptov part of the Great Fatra. Numerous cliffs are very suitable for the trips with children, to whom you can also thank by visiting the minizoo right on the meadows below Sidorovo mountain peak. We recommend you visiting it especially in the autumn in stable weather with nice colours of autumn leaves.
Lookout tower, Liptovský Ján village
The St. John’s Lookout Tower rises above the village of Liptovský Ján and offers the view of the entire village and the surrounding area. The lookout tower is all-wooden, its shape and materials used are based on traditional Slovak architecture. It is located in the locality of Stráne above the cemetery under the Kameničná hill (829 m above sea level). The easiest way to get to it is from the Kaďa spring, when you cross the bridge over the stream and then climb uphill. You will see an orientation sign for the trail towards the lookout tower near the cemetery fence, near the workout elements, which you can also use before or after visiting the lookout tower.
Soušava Lookout Tower, Veľké Borové village
As a starting point, we recommend the village of Veľké Borové on the border of Liptov and Orava regions. The observation tower on Súšava hill is 16 – meter high and above the treetops allows you to see the mountain ranges such as Roháče, Chočské vrchy and Malá Fatra, as well as Oravská Magura or Babia hora. Thanks to its difficulty, the route is manageable even for smaller children. You can reach the viewpoint after about half an hour of walking with a 160 meters climb. If you choose a longer route for the ascent, which bypasses the hill from the right side, you can count on 45 minutes.
Lookout tower Krajčov vrch hill, Nižná Boca
Above the village of Nižná Boca there is a wooden cottage with the lookout tower. Thanks to its total height of 14.5 meters, its unique location in the bosom of the nature and the beautiful view of the mining village and Bocká dolina Valley, the lookout tower is a popular destination for the hikes and walks. The road to it leads along the trail directly from the village, and it is a relatively easy route that takes only a few minutes. At the top of the lookout tower, you will get acquainted with the history of the village and photo documentation with the description will provide you with information about the surrounding hills.
Vavrišovo village Lookout Tower
Vavrišovo is the village located near Liptovský Hrádok town and is one of the most beautiful in the region, also because of the unique barns or threshing floors, rare because of their exceptional architecture completing the view of the whole country. It was in their surrounding that the Museum of the Battle of Vavrišovo village was built, in memory of the battle that took place in the village in August 1709 as the part of the estates of Francis II Rákoci uprisings between the insurgent Kurucs and the imperial units of the Labans. Vavrišovo village was burned down during this battle. The museum also has the lookout tower, from which you will have the view of the Western and Low Tatras, peaks such as Kriváň and Ďumbier.
Májka Lookout Tower
Východná is a distinctive Liptov village known mainly for its folklore traditions. In the village there is a unique area with the open-air theatre, where the oldest and the most famous festival of folk art in Slovakia is celebrated every year – Východná Folklore Festival, known all over the world. The dominant feature of this area is also the 28-meter- high observation tower “Májka”, from which the visitors can look at the entire area, the village of Východná, but above all the beautiful panorama of the High, Western and Low Tatras.
