Lookouts and viewpoints on Liptov

Liptov is a region in the north of Slovakia, known for its beautiful nature, mountains and hiking trails. One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Liptov is the observation decks, which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape – the majestic Tatras, Mala and Veľká Fatra, but also Liptovská Mara.

Each of the Liptov lookouts has its own unique character and provides a different perspective on the beautiful Liptov landscape.

Lookout Tower Liptovská Lúžna

The tower is located just a few minutes’ easy walk from the village of Liptovská Lúžna in the direction of Železnô. The road to it leads through a meadow and still offers views of the Lúžanské Meander with the clear, slowly flowing water of the Lúžňanka stream. Meandering – zigzagging of the water was caused by a noticeable softening of the slope. The river thus creates the impression that it flows uphill.

Observation point Skalka, Liptovský Hrádok

The viewpoint is located near the Grand Castle in Liptovský Hrádek. We will reach its top via an easy route with a climb. From there you can see the whole city, the river Belá, but also the surroundings of Liptovský Hrádek and the hills. There is a double cross on the top of the cliff, and below Skalka there is a monument with a commemorative plaque dedicated to the victims of the 1st and 2nd World Wars and to the inhabitants of the villages of Belánská dolina. The monument was built by academic sculptor Ladislav Ľudovít Pollák.

Rozhľadňa Ostredok Demänovská Dolina

Observation Tower Ostredok, Jasná

The Ostredok Lookout is located just a few minutes’ walk from the parking lot in the Biela púť location in the Jasná – Nízke Tatry ski resort. The starting point and the direction sign are also visible from the parking lot. There is a picnic table and benches under the lookout tower, and from the lookout tower itself there is a nice view of Chopok and the Low Tatras. The hiking trail continues to the Symbolic Cemetery for the victims of the Low Tatras. In the chapel at the symbolic cemetery, there are tablets with the names of people who perished in the Low Tatras. There is also a statue of “Mountain Pieta”, which symbolizes the grief of a mother over the loss of a child.

Observation point Malý Roháč, Kvačianska dolina

The viewpoint is located about an hour’s easy walk from the mouth of the Kvačianska dolina. The Malý Roháč lookout is essentially a secure platform located between trees, right on a cliff with an authentic view of the upper part of the valley and a large rock needle.

Observation Tower Pavčina Lehota

Pavčina Lehota is located at the beginning of the Demänovská valley, it is necessary to turn right from the main road. The observation tower offers a unique view of the entire Liptov region. The tower is located just a few minutes’ easy walk from the parking lot in the Žiarce mountain resort. The road to it leads through a meadow and still offers views of the surrounding area. The Žiarce resort also has a mountain bobsleigh track, which is undoubtedly an attractive diversion for adrenaline lovers and children in the summer.

Observation point Sidorovo

Sidorovo (1099 m above sea level) is a peak located above Vlkolínec. So you can go to the viewpoint from Vlkolínec, but also from Ružomberok, from the calvary there or use the cable car from Hrabov. The lookout offers great views of the Low and Western Tatras and the Liptov part of Veľká Fatra. Numerous ramps are very suitable for trips with children, which you can also thank by visiting the mini-zoo directly in the meadows below Sidorovo. We recommend a visit especially in the autumn in stable weather with the nice colors of the autumn leaves.

Observation Tower, Liptovský Ján

The Svätojánska lookout towers over the village of Liptovský Ján and offers a view of the entire village and the surrounding area. The lookout tower is made entirely of wood, its shape and the materials used are based on traditional Slovak architecture. It is located in the location of Stráne above the cemetery under Kameničná hill (829 m.a.s.l.). The easiest way to get to it is from the Kaď spring, when you cross the bridge over the stream and then climb up the hill. You will see the orientation sign for the path towards the lookout tower near the cemetery fence, near the exercise elements, which you can also use before or after visiting the lookout tower.

Observation point Kobyliny

The viewpoint is located just a few minutes’ walk from the mouth of the Kvačianská dolina following the red sign. The Kobylina viewpoint is essentially a metal structure located above the 70-meter deep canyon of the Kvačianky river.

Observation Tower Súšava

As a starting point, we recommend the village of Veľké Borové between the Liptov and Orava regions. The observation tower on Súšava hill is 16 meters high and allows you to see mountains such as Roháče, Chočské vrchy and Malá Fatra, as well as Oravská Magura and Babia hora above the treetops. Due to its difficulty, the route is manageable even for smaller children. You can reach the viewpoint after about a half-hour walk with a 160 m climb. If you choose a longer route for the ascent, which goes around the hill from the right side, you can count on 45 minutes.

Observation Tower Krajčov Vrch, Nižná Boca

Above the village of Nižná Boca there is a wooden cabin with a lookout. Thanks to its total height of 14.5 meters, a unique location in the lap of nature and a beautiful view of the mining village and the Bocká valley, the lookout tower is a popular destination for hikes and walks. The way to it leads along the footpath directly from the village, and it is a relatively easy route that takes only a few minutes. At the top of the lookout tower, you will learn about the history of the village, and photo documentation with a description will provide you with information about the surrounding hills.

Observation Tower Vavrišovo

Vavrišovo is a village located near Liptovský Hrádek and is one of the most beautiful in the region, also because of the unique hummocks, rare because of their exceptional architecture that completes the view of the entire landscape. The Battle of Vavrišovo Museum was built in their vicinity, which was built to commemorate the battle that took place on the territory of the village in August 1709 as part of the estate uprisings of Francis II. Rákoci between the rebel Kurucs and the imperial units of the Labans. Vavrišovo was burned during this battle. Part of the museum is also an observation tower from which you can see the Western and Low Tatras, mountain peaks such as Kriváň and Ďumbier.
