Open-air museum Pribylina. What does the Liptovská Village Museum offer?

If you want to get to know Liptov in the past, be sure to visit the UNESCO Vlkolínec, as well as the Skanzen in Pribylin. In a beautiful foothills location, you can enjoy the Liptov village museum. And it doesn’t matter how old you are. The place is attractive for both children and adults. It breathes history and thanks to events it lives and connects the present with the past.

It is the largest natural museum under the Tatras. Its history is closely connected with the construction of the Liptovská Mara aqueduct. Here you will find copies of original buildings with numerous original elements from several Liptov villages, mostly from the area flooded by the water dam. You can easily move from the present to the turn of the 19th and the first third of the 20th century and get to know the life of different social strata of Liptov’s population…

There are also domestic animals, especially sheep, which have belonged to Liptov for centuries.

At the entrance to the museum, you can orient yourself thanks to the clear map of the open-air museum, and you will find that history is not the only thing that will interest you here. The opening hours of the open-air museum change according to the season, so we recommend that you always check them on the official website of the open-air museum. On this page, you can also buy tickets to the open-air museum, but also to the local attraction – a ride on a historic train. It will interest children, but also those born earlier. The area is really huge, so if the train is an attraction for you, it will take you about 15 minutes from the ticket office, and even more to the depot. You can also see other older trains that are part of the exhibition.

In the open-air museum, they used the natural location to the maximum and you will also find an educational trail with a rest area. The path is even intended for people with reduced ability to see or hear. Here, the guiding stones create a sound when touched by the blind stick and, thanks to it, guide along the entire route. The Tatra nature is breathtaking and the nature trail offers much-needed exercise in the fresh air and even the opportunity to get to know it through the local bear den.Visitors playfully get to know birds of prey, Tatra mammals, insects and reptiles. Special 3D images of various animal species allow you to recognize individual individuals interactively, through the touch of your fingers. Thanks to the 3D relief of the Tatras, cut into the trunk of a tree, even the blind can recognize the Slovak high mountains.

The museum also regularly organizes various events. It’s worth following his calendar so that you don’t miss such highlights as the Spring Holidays, Sheep’s Day, Liptovská Wedding, Bee Sunday and others. They say that Liptov must be experienced, and when you understand its history, which is conveyed in a beautiful environment by the Skanzen in Pribylin, you will fall in love with it too…
