LIPTOV is a unique region in the north of Slovakia, characterized by a charming variety of the nature in a small territory, a contrast of high peaks and green meadows and pastureland, which managed to create the largest natural playfield of relaxation and fun in Slovakia.
If someone is looking for a summer holiday associated with water, Liptov is an excellent choice. Also, thanks to the resort Jasná Nízke Tatry Liptov is the top region for skiing. As the only resort in Slovakia, Jasna can host the World Skiing Cup.

Liptov and water
At the heart of the Liptov region is the Liptovská Mara water reservoir, which directly evokes a stay by the sea. In addition, visitors to Liptov will find a number of thermal, mineral springs. The most famous localities with natural thermal springs are Liptovský Ján. On the opposite side of Liptov, Lúčky Spa with medicinal water attracts. Fun and relaxation is also great in water parks. Tatralandia in Liptovský Mikuláš offers many toboggans and swimming pools with clear, thermal and saltwater sea water and thanks to Tropical Paradise with a transparent roof, holidaymakers enjoy summer and tropical temperatures in any weather and even surfing wave. Bešeňová boasts the largest number of swimming pools, the longest toboggan, the largest sauna house, as well as a swimming pool with sea waves. A huge attraction is the local sauna ceremonies, whether daily or night. There is a lot of attractive water in Liptov thanks to the local wild rivers.
Liptov and mountains
Liptov is surrounded by mountains from all sides – Low Tatras, Western Tatras, High Tatras, Choč Mountains and Veľká Fatra. Hiking in them is more focused on medium and less physically fit tourists and thanks to the Chopok and Malinô Brdo cable cars, they can also make trips to the mountains and the smallest children. The local mountains are also a paradise for cyclists. Liptov offers about 850 km of marked cycling routes, where everyone can find suitable terrain according to their difficulty. Ideally, when Liptov rides on a mountain bike, the hit is electric bikes.
Lovers of road cycling will also find their way to Liptov because the views are wonderful.
Liptov and natural beauty
Like Liptov, the beauty of the land on the earth was in the vortex, so it did not save even under it. Local caves are among the most beautiful and most visited. Underground beauties are represented by Demänovská Cave of Freedom, Demänovská Ice Cave combines sinter and ice formations in one place. Families with children also liked the Stanišovský Cave in Liptovský Ján, where caves are equipped with headlamps and engagingly lead through underground beauties.
What would it be like Liptov without dumplings, sheep’s cheese and žinčice? Visitors can try these in many chalets and huts. The rich history and hard life of the local people is represented by the Liptov open-air museums. Open-air museum in Pribylina and the village of Vlkolínec, which is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Liptov has a rich tradition of folklore culture. The annual folklore festival in Východná is the largest folklore event in Slovakia attracting thousands of visitors from all over Europe.
There are also several beautiful churches in the Liptov region. In the village of Svätý Kríž, south of the Liptovská Mara Dam, there is a wooden articular church. It is one of the largest wooden sacral buildings in Europe, and like the Liptov Village Museum in Pribylina, it was saved from flooding (originally built in the now extinct village of Paludza).
The ancient Church of All Saints in Ludrova near Ruzomberok is one of Slovak unique. It is believed that this early Gothic building without foundation was built in the second half of the thirteenth century.
In the small village of Nižné Matiašovce, at the beginning of a steep road from Liptov to Zuberec (in the valley of Orava), is a beautiful wooden church with defensive stone walls and bastions.
