The Martin Rázus Association in cooperation with the City of Liptovský Mikuláš, the Janko Kráľ Museum, and ŠK Leader Fox Bike Liptovský Mikuláš invite you to the 22nd annual cycling marathon on Saturday, August 12, 2023, along an updated route from Liptovský Mikuláš (Vrbica) through Čertovica (1233 m above sea level), Brezno, Banská Bystrica, Mýto pod Ďumbierom, Čertovica back to Liptovský Mikuláš.
Event Schedule
The event will start at 8:45 am at the birth house of the Rázus family in Liptovský Mikuláš-Vrbica. The first stop in Brezno at the Martin Rázus monument (around 11:00 am), laying of a wreath, refreshments. In Banská Bystrica (around 1:25 pm), participants will lay a bouquet at Martin Rázus’s grave and replenish their energy with a good lunch. Then they will head back along the route towards Brezno, but will turn towards Mýto pod Ďumbierom, through Čertovica. The finish line of the marathon will be at the Martin Rázus memorial in Liptovský Mikuláš around 6:30 pm.
There will be two mountain competitive stages:
Kráľová Lehota – Čertovica peak (18 km)
Jarabá – Čertovica peak (5.5 km)
in two age categories: up to 35 and over 35 years old, with financial and material prizes. Participation in the competitive stages is voluntary.
The announcement of the results of the competitive stages will take place at the end of the event in the garden of the Janko Kráľ Museum in Liptovský Mikuláš.
Notice: The cycling marathon will take place amidst unrestricted road traffic, so every participant is obliged to obey traffic regulations and instructions from the organizers. Each cyclist participates in the event at their own risk. Cycling helmets are also mandatory according to road law.
We emphasize the presence of a “collection” bus throughout the day, which less experienced cyclists can use to overcome the extreme parts of the cycling marathon. Organizers also provide medical services, drinks, and lunch in Banská Bystrica.
The Cycling Marathon in the Footsteps of Martin Rázus is one of the main activities of the Martin Rázus Association (established in 2002). Over the past 21 years, nearly two thousand cyclists from all corners of Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Canada have participated, both on perfectly equipped and amateur machines. It’s not about winning, it’s about participation! However, sufficient physical condition and appropriate technical equipment are prerequisites for successful participation.
The Martin Rázus Association adheres to the legacy of the prominent Slovak writer, playwright, poet, journalist, Lutheran priest, politician, native of Vrbica, now part of Liptovský Mikuláš. Its goal is to promote the ongoing legacy of Martin Rázus’s spiritual, artistic, and political work, imbued with democratic, humanistic, and ethical messages, and the relentless struggle to assert the recognized truth.
