Via ferrata Two Towers

The Two Towers via ferrata is only the 4th via ferrata in Slovakia and the first one in Liptov region. It was also created thanks to Gothal resort, which is a partner of the via ferrata operator – civic association called Dve veže – The Two towers. Via ferrata is so-called secured road, providing difficult sections, fixed ropes or iron risers. If you are in the mood for more adrenaline-pumping climb and climbing is your passion, you will get it with us.

Location

The Two Towers ferrata is located about 4 km from Gothal resort, in the direction of the neighbouring village of Liptovské Revúce. You can find it in the area that the locals tend to call “Záhorovo”. From the highest point of the ferrata, you are offered beautiful views of the surrounding peaks of the Low Tatras (Končitá, Malý Zvolen, Čierna Hora), the Great Fatra (Krížna, Frčkov) and the National Parks of the Great Fatra and the Low Tatras, which are separated by the Revúca River.

Brief information about the Two Towers Ferrata:

  • Altitude – approx. 800 m above sea level
  • Elevation of individual routes – from 20 m to 70 m
  • Origin – the rock is of limestone origin
  • Via ferrata Layout – the ferrata consists of 3 rock towers – one smaller and 2 dominant towers, which will be connected by rope bridges (rope horses)

Difficulty of the routes in detail

B – moderately difficult routes

It is a steeper terrain with occasional exposed passages and bad footsteps. Artificial belay in the form of steel ropes, crampons, pegs and steeper longer ladders is used directly to move forward. Several passages are strenuous and exhausting. Many experienced alpine hikers use a via ferrata set with a helmet referring to this degree of difficulty. For the beginners and children, a via ferrata set is necessary, and for dangerous and long sections, additional rope belay is also important.

Without artificial belaying, it would be a climbing terrain of difficulty level II or III.

C – difficult routes

The route consists of steep to perpendicular walls. The majority of the route, mostly exposed route, is equipped with artificial belay (steel ropes, crampons, pegs, possibly slightly overhanging ladders). The crampons and artificial stupas are further away from each other (important information especially for the smaller ones and children). The sections are often perpendicular, with only one steel rope.

Secured sections require some strength in the hands. Long sections of this difficulty contain big, secured routes. A via ferrata set with a helmet is also necessary for the experienced alpine hikers. For the beginners and children, we recommend taking such a trip with an additional rope belay and only with an experienced companion.

Without artificial belaying, it would be a climbing terrain of difficulty level III or IV.

D – very difficult routes

The route consists of a very steep rocky terrain. Some places are from vertical to overhanging. Usually very exposed and belaying is often carried out only with a steel rope. Occasionally, artificial stupas (crampons, pegs) lie often far from each other.

The ferrata consists of long, perpendicular to overhanging passages, where you need to have a lot of strength in your hands, good technique as well as the training. The ascent is associated with the easier sections climbing (difficulty level I or II) without belaying, so we recommend doing it only with a sufficiently experienced alpine tourist and climber. However, a via ferrata set (climbing boots and helmet) is also necessary for them.

We do not recommend this route for the beginners and less experienced hikers, it should only be completed with additional belay and with an experienced guide or trainer.

Without artificial belaying, it would be a climbing terrain of difficulty level IV or V.

Each route is made of iron risers, which are 40 cm apart. There is a belay steel rope on each route.

Before visiting the via ferrata, read the brief operating rules
