Being situated on the main ridge of the Low Tatras just beneath the peak of Mt Chopok at an altitude of 1985 m, Kamenná chata is the third highest located alpine chalet in Slovakia (following „Chata pod Rysmi“ and „Téryho chata“ in the High Tatras). The chalet is located in a suitable locality and therefore often visited by tourists taking hikes in summer and skiers skiing in the resort Jasná in winter. Kamenná Chata pod Chopkom provides food and accommodation for 12 people in a shelter or double-bed rooms. The chalet was renovated in 2017 which helped to attract even more visitors.
The chalet is accessible from a blue trail leading from the cottage of Mikulášska Chata, Jasná resort. It is a medium – difficult trail taking almost 3 hours. A large part of the trail can also be taken by cable cars that also run to Mt Chopok during the summer.
Free parking is available in the village of Demänovská Dolina or in the resort Jasná. Local bus service from Liptovský Mikuláš is also available.
